Congratulations

Yesterday's performance at East Central High School was awesome! The band's efforts resulted in a 4th place finish in AA Prelims, 9th place overall. Congratulations for all your hard work! When prelim caption awards were announced, our very own Aaron Alexander was awarded Best Field Commander! Outstanding effort Aaron!

When finalists were announced, we were thrilled when we heard "Silver Creek" ring out across the field. The sound of our band shouting for joy from the far bleachers was indeed a treat. (One of the top 8 bands had a commitment at their school and opted not to march in the finals making a spot for our fine band.)

After gathering the band for a review of the judges comments and a rousing cheer, Mr. Hoover and his staff directed the kids to "Get ready for finals!". Smiles were everywhere.

Your Marching Dragons took the field 3rd in Finals Competition and did an outstanding job. If you can believe it, they performed even better than in the prelims. After loading up all the equipment, everyone moved to the stadium to watch the final bands perform.

Finals results were very predictable. Each of the 8 bands finished exactly were they had placed in prelims. 1st thru 8th saw no change in position. Finals awards placed our band in 8th place. Great effort everyone! Keep up the fine work! We are very proud of you.

Finals caption awards included Best Field Commander...you guessed it...Aaron Alexander was again honored as best of the best! Outstanding Aaron. You lead with a passion that rocks the house (and the podium!).

After a long ride home, everyone was weary, but still smiling as they headed home. What a great day. March on Dragons!

Highest regards to all...Rick Durham

-We have to score in the top 8 out of all the classes to make the finals. There are 14 bands altogether. I know there are some really good bands in the bigger classes. There are 7 in our class: Madison, Connersville, Simon Kenton, Silver Creek, Southeastern, Owen Valley, Rising Sun. We would have to score better than Southwestern and Butler in the small class (the both beat us at Ballard) and Madison and Simon Kenton in our class to make the finals. Those would be the bands that we have been scoring close to.

-Bring money to buy concessions after we play.

-Admission for this contest is $6.00 for adults.

-Remember to wear your band shirt Saturday

-Next week is Fall Break week. Tuesday is a half day. It would work out real well if we could practice in the afternoon from 12:45-3:15. David Parsons might be able to be here that day. If we did that, we would have Wednesday off as well as Thursday and Friday. No contest on Sat. Oct. 20. If you want to see some good bands, Indiana State Finals are in the RCA Dome that day, and Kentucky State Finals are in Papa John's Stadium in Louisville that night.

-Really good job last weekend. Very proud of everyone. David Parson was very complimentary of your hard work during the rehearsal Saturday. Heard good things from parents and Mr. Shaw as well. Thanks to everyone for allowing to spend time with my family.

-There should be no jewelry worn with your uniform.

-DO NOT PLAY ANY INSTRUMENT IN THE BUS AREA. You can only play in the warm-up area when I tell you. Some contests we go to deduct points if you make any noise in the bus area.

-During the awards ceremony, stay together as a group until all the awards are over - no matter how well we do.

-You must obey the chaperones at all times. Remember - they are volunteers and are doing what is asked of them. If you need a conflict resolved, see Mr. Hoover privately.

-Students are required to ride the buses to and from the contests. If you are not riding the bus home, find your bus chaperone personally after everything is packed and let him/her know. Do not tell them earlier, and do not have someone else do it. Also - you are excused to your parents, not someone else.
